Book Clubs
Aimi and Jane belong to a Book Club which meets once a month. It was started to deal with the ‘to-be-read piles’ rapidly accumulating on their shelves. Every third book chosen is a classic but the most popular books don’t necessarily lead to the best debates – ideally you need a bit of disagreement. Some of the best discussions have been provoked by Thackeray’s Vanity Fair, Geraldine Brooks’s The People of the Book and Stella Tillyard’s Tides of War. The favourites so far have been Daphne du Maurier’s The Parasites and Annie Proulx’s The Shipping News.
